Wines To Include:

Domaine Rollin
Pernand-Vergelesses Les Cloux 2015

“Good . . . [white] Burgundy most certainly does not always have to be from Meursault, or one of the Montrachets, etc. etc. And in the age of global warming, some of the ‘lesser’ regions are really starting to shine.”
94 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, WineFront.com.au

Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles Blanc 2015

“Pale yellow. Deeper honeyed nose . . . . A fat, rich wine with a strong element of flinty limestone smokiness . . . . aggressive but long, palate-staining finish. This [is a] plush, fine-grained wine . . .”
89-92 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles Blanc 2014
“This is also quite floral in character with its pretty array of white orchard fruit, citrus and a whiff of petrol. There is once again good volume and richness to the round and caressing medium weight flavors that possess sneaky good length on the lingering finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. This will need a few years to further develop depth but the underlying material is present to facilitate that transformation.”
89-92 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

Domaine Rollin
Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Grands Liards 2015
“Here the expressive nose is compositionally similar to the Pernand villages but with notably more pronounced earth elements. There is an attractive mouth feel to the middle weight and vibrant flavors that are shaped by more refined tannins than are usually present, all wrapped in a solidly concentrated . . . finale. A quality Savigny.”
Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur
Volnay 2015
“From several parcels that include Ez Echards, Les Aussy and Les Petits Gamets . . . . there is excellent volume to the rich and velvet-textured flavors that possess a rounded, even lush mouth feel, all wrapped in a sappy and lightly mineral-inflected finish . . . . Worth considering.”
Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur
Volnay 1er Cru Pitures 2014
“Dark, bright red. Medicinal black cherry on the reticent nose. Concentrated and very primary, conveying a strong impression of energy to the flavors of black cherry, raspberry, licorice and menthol. Very pulpy wine, like chewing on grapes. A powerful rather than elegant style of Volnay (this fruit was picked at a high 13% potential alcohol), with the very long finish showing a firm tannic spine that Bitouzet says is typical of this wine. Very impressive . . . and built for a slow evolution in bottle.
92+ Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur
Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds 2014
“A cool and restrained nose of red and dark pinot fruit is liberally laced with spice and soft earth nuances that are trimmed in a hint of wood. There is plenty of underlying tension to the tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the moderately austere, balanced and impressively persistent finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose reappears. This is a classic Taillepieds with its austere but not hard finish that is clearly built on a base of firm minerality. Patience required.”
90-92 Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur
Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes 2014
“From 20+ year old vines. This is more deeply pitched with an elegant and complex nose of red and dark pinot fruit, earth and an interesting note of smoked tea. There is more size, weight and power to the medium weight flavors that deliver outstanding flavor authority and ample minerality on the austere and muscular finish. This is a classically styled Clos des Chênes that will also require extended cellaring to resolve the firm tannins.”
90-93 Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Jérôme Chézeaux
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots 2015
This fabled vineyard is situated at the northernmost juncture of Nuits-Saint-Georges as it abuts Vosne-Romanée. The Chézeaux parcel is a mere 0.34 hectares and is on an 18-degree east-facing slope at about 270 meters altitude. Because of its proximity to Vosne, this is the Nuits cuvée that tends to be the most tender, precocious and elegant of the Domaine’s quartet of 1er Crus. There is only one barrel of this wine allocated to the US market.

Domaine Jérôme Chézeaux
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2015
This wine is consistently one of our favorites from the Domaine. Chézeaux owns about four-tenths of a hectare in Chaumes in the southern portion of Vosne, superbly situated just beneath La Tâche and Aux Malconsorts on a vein of limestone and marl. The US market is privileged with access to two barrels of this wine (600 bottles) annually.

Domaine Jérôme Chézeaux
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 2015
Perhaps the greatest wine to issue from this estate, the Suchots sits on deep and heavy clay at 270 meters altitude with an east-southeast exposure. Chézeaux owns a bit more than one-third of a hectare in this elite lieu-dit which sits opposite Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Rosenthal purchases a bit more than one barrel per annum and bottles a small volume of this very great wine in magnum to honor its exceptional quality.

Domaine Jérôme Chézeaux
Clos de Vougeot 2015
From a tiny parcel of 0.175 hectares situated in the prime section of this grand cru immediately above and adjacent to the castle, Chézeaux produces a masterpiece that is a classic rendition of the best that this appellation can offer. Meaty, gamy, full of wild berry notes and brawny tannins, Chézeaux’s version is masculine, at times rustic, and impressively age-worthy. Rosenthal imports one barrel (300 bottles) per vintage.
