Château du Nozay Sancerre 2017
"Cyril produces a separate cuvee from the estate’s oldest and best-exposed vines closest to the chateau itself. As of 2016, the vines for the “Chateau du Nozay” are 45 years old, and while the wine possesses the same almost Chablis-like carriage as the “Domaine” bottling above, the intensity and depth are noticeably ratcheted up here. While it’s still lean and punchy, the vines’ diet of more sun and deeper subsoils reveals itself in a glimmer of glycerol succulence on the mid-palate and a rounder, longer finish. A certain density that still avoids any sense of heaviness suggests the possibility of interesting cellar development, and for those inclined to allow the Sauvignon’s youthful exuberance to subside and let the limestone shine through, this will prove a very rewarding purchase. The production here is barely five percent of that of the “Domaine” Sancerre, so available quantities are scant." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Domaine Cheveau Mâcon-Fuissé Les Grandes Bruyères 2016
"Approximately 6000 bottles are produced annually from 40 year-old vines in the village of Fuissé. Planted to limestone-clay soils, these vineyards produce a typically generous, rich wine from this village famed for its ideal setting that yields some of the finest wines of the Maconnais. In this instance, after fermentation, the wine is raised in stainless steel but left in contact with the fine lees for one year. Virtually the entire production of this wine is dedicated to the US market." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis Les Preuses 2014
"Here the nose is compositionally similar to the Vaillons save for the addition of an exotic fruit note. The palate impression of the bigger and richer flavors is, somewhat curiously given the increase in size and weight, finer and even more seductively textured, all wrapped in a sappy and lingering finish where a hint of bitter lemon is present." 91-94 Points Allen Meadows
Bitouzet-Prieur Meursault Les Charmes 2015
"The 2015 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru sports very slight reduction on the nose, but the terroir comes through: fine definition, scents of crushed stone and a little walnut, a subtle marine influence in the background. The palate is well defined with a crisp bead of acidity, saline in the mouth, with a pinch of lemongrass toward the finish. Very fine. There is good winemaking here, but it needs three or four more years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting." 93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous
Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines 2016
"Reduction presently dominates the nose. There is however first-rate intensity and freshness to the ultra-refined, racy and beautifully delineated flavors that possess an almost delicate texture on the focused, highly complex and gorgeously persistent finish. This excellent effort is textbook Baudines.” 92-94 Points Allen Meadows
Henri Prudhon Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 2015
"A spicy and again attractively fresh nose offers up notes of red currant, black raspberry and a hint of violet. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is also sappy and round with reasonably good vibrancy to the naturally sweet finale. This should be enjoyable young if that's your preference." Allen Meadows, Burghound
Jean-Marc Pillot Santenay Les Champs Claude 2015
"Here the restrained nose is compositionally similar to that of the old vines Chassagne though the earth component is more prominent. The rich, delicious and sleekly muscular flavors exude a fine bead of minerality while offering reasonably good depth and length as well as only a trace of rusticity." Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Lucien Jacob Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Peuillets 2015
"This vineyard sits on a subtle slope on the fringes of Savigny that borders Beaune and leads to the road that curves north to Pernand Vergelesses. The wine is marked by a charming wild, red-berry fruitiness but brings more backbone to its frame than its sister wine at the village level. There are two barrels (600 bottles) reserved for our use in the USA." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Domaine Lucien Jacob Beaune Les Toussaints 2015
"This is the most substantial of the red wines of the domaine. It carries the most color, the most weight and the most structure. Still, it retains the essentially silky, seductive qualities that mark the offerings of this domaine. The vineyard itself is superbly situated in the northern tier of the appellation where much of the best of this appellation can be found. It is encircled by three neighboring 1er Crus: Greves, Cent Vignes and Bressandes. We purchase two barrels (600 bottles) of this wine annually." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay Les Taillepieds 2015
"Medium red. A hint of musky, resiny reduction to the aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and licorice. Fine-grained, dry wine with terrific concentration and depth to its dark berry and spice flavors. Actually begins a bit austere but serious, late-arriving tannins carry the fruit through a very long finish. This big, rich Volnay is slightly high-toned in a positive way. The yield here was a healthy 37 hectoliters per hectare in 2015, according to François Bitouzet." 92 Points Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 2016
"The Ligniers purchased the fruit for this wine, but they oversee the vineyard work from July onward, as well as the harvest itself. Produced from parcels in two lieu-dits—15-year-old vines in “Epointures” and 60-year-old vines in “Reniard”—this is pitch-perfect Gevrey-Chambertin: meaty and succulent, with classic Lignier poise and a long, mineral-drenched, driving finish." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie 2016
"The malo for the 2016 Trilogie ended at the same time as the Trés Girard, but the wine was showing a bit reduced at the time of my visit and needed a bit of coaxing to blossom. Once the wine opens up, it shows off great purity in its black fruity blend of black cherries, black plums, pigeon, a fine base of soil, dark chocolate and a topnote of woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and broader-shouldered than the Trés Girard, with a very good core, ripe tannins and a long, tangy finish that closes with nascent complexity and fine grip." 91 Points John Gilman, View From The Cellar
