Join Spectrum Wine Auctions and Vega-Sicilia's official importer Europvin USA for an expansive tasting seminar of the wines of Vega-Sicilia on the evening of Wednesday 17 January 2018.

This seminar will be led by the Managing Director of Sales and Marketing for Vega-Sicilia, Antonio Menendez Puente. 

We will be pouring an extensive range of wines carefully chosen from across the international Vega-Sicilia portfolio, with vintages spanning 2006-2016.

Jamón, cheeses, and other Spanish delicacies will be provided to accompany the wines.

Benjamin de Rothschild / Vega-Sicilia Rioja Macán Clásico 2014
"Macán Clásico is a wine deeply attached to its territory. Freshness, fruitiness and delicacy are its signs of identity. It is produced in stainless steel casks; part of its malolactic fermentation in oak; new oak and single use barrel ageing for 12 to 14 months determined only by the characteristics of the vintage. It is balanced in bottle for over 18 months."

Benjamin de Rothschild / Vega-Sicilia Rioja Macán 2013
“The youthful-looking 2013 Macán is pure Tempranillo sourced from a myriad of plots of old vines from the 90 hectares of vineyards they own mostly in the village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It fermented in oak vats, with 20% of the volume going through malolactic in barrique and an élevage of 14 months exclusively in French oak barrels. The two wines from 2013 share a common characteristic, which is better integrated oak and a subtler mouthfeel. Other than that, the ripeness of the grapes also seemed more moderate, which has resulted in fresher, more elegant wines. Here there is a mixture of red and black fruit, and some notes of dark spices. The palate shows very polished tannins and good balance, more serious than the Clásico. Yields were lower and they also had to sort and select grapes, so quantities are lower at 52,000 bottles in the case of this Macán.”

"The careful selection of the grapes and the work directives even for the purchased grapes has clearly paid off in the 2013 Alión, which has great freshness and perfume. It was cropped from a relatively normal growing season, but with a cold September with some rains that provoked a slight delay in the picking and especially the seed for a severe sorting of the grapes... It might be a lighter vintage for Alión, but one that has a subtler profile and harmony. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, with a thread of acidity going through its core and lifting it up. An elegant Alión."

Oremus Tokaji Late Harvest 2015
Oremus Late Harvest perfectly balances the Furmint, Hárslevelű, Zéta and Sárga Muskotály grapes to produce an elegant and rich wine.  Roughly half of the grapes used are Aszú noble berries, experiencing a large degree of noble rot.  This, couple with a long and slow fermentation followed by barrel aging creates this nuanced, persistent wine.
