We will pour twelve world-class wines from the next installment of the one and only Midwest Gentleman's Century Cellar to kick off our next Distinguished Cellar Series, will open Friday 22 August.
Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2008
". . . A remarkably sexy, opulent wine that transcends the vintage character. Its dense plum/ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of sweet black cherries, licorice, truffles and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied with silky tannin as well as undeniable appeal, richness, purity and a 40+ second finish, this is a sure-fire big buy in 2008." ~ 95, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2004
"Very well integrated, neat nose without massive intensity but attractive inky dryness. Super fresh acidity but not aggressive and lovely supple tannins. There’s not the weight of the 2005 on the palate but there is lovely balance. Really fragrant and fresh." ~ 18.5, Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com

Château Ausone 1999
"Is the 1999 Ausone the wine of the vintage? Dense purple color, a compelling bouquet of licorice, minerals, black and blueberry liqueur, extraordinary delineation, high tannin, superb extract, and phenomenal richness all are the stuff of a legend . . . . Proprietor Alain Vauthier produced only 20,000 bottles because he eliminated one-fourth of the tiny crop. The result is out-and-out fabulous . . ." ~ 95, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Château l'Église Clinet 1998
"Aromas of dark chocolate and blackberry, with hints of black olives. Full-bodied, with chewy, polished tannins and loads of ripe fruit, tapenade and flowers. A complex and complete wine. Still needs time. One of the best ever from here." ~ 97, James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Les Forts de Latour 1996
"Amazing aromas of crushed berries and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with wonderfully velvety tannins and a long, long finish. This wine has wonderful texture and length. What a second wine!" ~ 92, James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Château Cos d'Estournel 1995
"A wine of extraordinary intensity and accessibility, the 1995 Cos d'Estournel is a sexier, more hedonistic offering than the muscular, backward 1996. Opulent, with forward aromatics (gobs of black fruits intermixed with toasty pain grillé scents and a boatload of spice), this terrific Cos possesses remarkable intensity, full body, and layers of jammy fruit nicely framed by the wine's new oak . . . . The 1995 will be difficult to resist . . ." - 95, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Château Calon-Ségur 1995
"Incredible nose of crushed berries, flowers, spices and nuts. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Powerful and solid." ~ 95, James Suckling, Wine Advocate

Château La Conseillante 1990
". . . A knock-out bouquet of cedar, kirsch, licorice, roasted herbs, and spice box. An exuberant, atypically flamboyant effort, it possesses supple texture, medium to full body, sweet fruit, plenty of glycerin, and attractive melted tannin." ~ 97, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Château Gruaud-Larose 1990
"Meaty, smoky, sweet berry and black currant characteristics intertwined with roasted herb, charcoal, new saddle leather, and bloody steak juice-like notes are found in this lush, full-bodied, opulent wine. It is a fully mature 1990 that, given its depth and intensity, should continue to evolve . . ." ~ 94, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Château Figeac 1990
"Sweet, supple and layered, with a deeply spicy cabernet component. Lovely ripe acids give clarity to the very rich flavors. Finishes with superb firmness and persistence.” ~ 93, Stephen Tanzer, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1986
"Superbly structured, with breathtaking aromas of plums, chocolate and berries that follow through on the palate. Full-bodied, with full tannins and a long, alluring finish." ~ 97, James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1978
". . . Displays a fragrant, well-developed bouquet of licorice, earth, black currants, and underbrush…This fully mature, medium-bodied wine exhibits soft tannin, excellent concentration and purity, and a sweet, elegant finish." ~ 90, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
