The growing season in 2015 was ideal for creating rich, intense wines throughout the valley.  A blend of sunshine and rain, hot days and cold nights, and perfectly timed wind helped grapes grow gracefully.  A cool August helped retain freshness in the vineyards.  With such excellent growing conditions, it is no surprize that Marcel Guigal proclaimed "It is surely the vintage of a life time.  In 55 years, I've never seen anything like it."
Domaine Saint-Damien Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu - $15.95
“The 2015 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes is essentially the same blend as the Gigondas (80% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre) and is vinified almost identically, although normally bottled sooner. It's a terrific value, offering concentrated plum and spice notes, plenty of body and richness and a velvety finish.”

Domaine Alary Cairanne Vieilles Vignes - $14.95
From the Distributor: "It is from a parcel that the Alary’s acquired for Jean-Etienne, who is the 11th generation of a male Alary, vigneron in Cairanne, dating back to 1692. Thus they use the name 1692 on this cuvee."

Domaine Les Aphillanthes Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Rasteau - $23.95
"I think the star of the lineup is the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau 1921 and this Grenache-dominated blend (there’s 7% Mourvèdre and a splash of Carignan) comes from a south-facing hillside parcel of very old vines. Full-bodied, pure, polished and even finesse-oriented, it has fabulous notes of black raspberries, garrigue and flowers."

Domaine Les Aphillanthes C
ôtes-du-Rhône Villages Trois Cepages - $17.95
"The 2015 Côtes du Rhône Villages Cuvee Trois Cepages (equal parts Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre) is another terrific wine that’s loaded with potential. Blueberries, blackcurrants, Provencal garrigue and licorice all emerge from this full-bodied, mouth-filling, plump and decadent beauty..."

Les Grands Bois Rasteau Cuvée Marc - $22.95
"I loved the 2015 Rasteau Marc from winemaker Gilles Ferran, and this blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 25% Mourvèdre offers a full-bodied, rich and concentrated style to go with classic black fruits (currants, hints of cassis), crushed rock-like minerality, toasted spice and earth."
92-94 - Wine Advocate

Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas La Louisiane - $29.95
“My pick of the cuvées in 2015 is the 2015 Gigondas La Louisiane, a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and the rest Cinsault and Syrah. From south-facing slopes of red clay and sand, this shows incredible detail in its aromas of garrigue and raspberries, then folds in richer notes of dark chocolate. This is full-bodied and velvety in feel, with just a hint of warmth on the finish. It should drink well for a decade, possibly longer.”
95 - Wine Advocate

“Opaque ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed aromas of candied red and dark berries, incense and smoky minerals, joined by a slowly emerging floral note. Juicy, broad and energetic on the palate, offering intense raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors and a suggestion of candied flowers. Finishes sweet, lively and youthfully tannic, delivering superb, spice- and mineral-driven persistence.”

Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape - $54.95
“Astounding purity and depth. This wine emanates old vine concentration with deep raspberry and red plums, spicy complexity and a sappy, bracken-like edge. Powerful and elegant tannins, reminiscent of great Barolo!”
96 - James Suckling

"Lurid ruby-red. Sexy, highly perfumed raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille scents are complemented by hints of musky rhubarb and Asian spices. Palate-staining sweet red and blue fruit and spicecake flavors show power as well as superb vivacity thanks to a spine of juicy acidity. The floral quality comes back emphatically on a strikingly long, sappy finish shaped by smooth, slow-mounting tannins. This might be the finest wine to emerge from this estate that I have ever tasted, and I've had some pretty amazing ones over the years."
94-96 - Vinous

“This tradition-minded producer has turned out a fine 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape. It's entirely whole cluster and 85% Grenache and sees only concrete for its vinification and élevage. The result is perfumed and floral, with stone fruit and cherries demonstrating the ripeness of the fruit. Yet it's also firmly tannic, suggesting some time in the cellar prior to prime-time drinking. This is a really fine effort.”

Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape - $54.99
"Rich and dark in profile, with delicious, velvety layers of warm fig, black currant and blackberry confiture moving through slowly, flecked with hints of ganache, roasted apple wood and tar. The finish has cut to match the heft. A real brick house that will age well."
95 - Wine Spectator

"Vivid ruby. Sexy, high-pitched red berry preserve, floral pastille and Asian spice aromas show outstanding clarity. Sappy, penetrating black raspberry, spicecake and licorice flavors gain weight with air and pick up suggestions of blood orange and smoky minerals. Shows impressive depth and polish, alluring sweetness and no rough edges. Showcases the best attributes of this warm vintage, finishing with silky, mounting tannins and lingering florality."
93-95 - Vinous

Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape - $88.99
"Bottled in late July, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape is an amazing effort, especially when one considers the production volume. Loaded with black cherry fruit and cola-like spice, this full-bodied, richly textured wine never seems heavy or warm, while exotic Indian spice notes linger on the finish. It should drink well for at least 20 years."
96 - Wine Advocate
Domaine Lionnet Saint-Joseph Terre Nueve - $59.95
"A terrific wine, the 2015 Cornas Terre Brulee combines smoky notes of grilled plums and meat in a full-bodied format. It's richly tannic and velvety at the same time, with a finish that's simultaneously drying (from tannins) and mouthwatering (from juicy fruit). Farmed organically, vinified with stems in concrete and aged in used, large-format oak, Cornas doesn't get more authentic (or better) than this!"

Yves Cuilleron Côte-Rôtie Madiniere - $59.95
Brilliant violet. Heady, assertively perfumed aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, incense, vanilla and woodsmoke acquire a suave floral topnote in the glass. Spice-laced blackberry, boysenberry and fruitcake flavors unfold slowly, picking up mineral and cola nuances on the back half. The sweet, supple, extremely long finish is framed by velvety tannins that sneak in late to add gentle grip.
92-94 - Vinous

Yves Cuilleron Côte-Rôtie Bassenon - $59.99
"Glass-staining ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe dark fruits, potpourri and olive; a zesty mineral nuance adds vivacity. Deeply concentrated blueberry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors take on suggestions of cola and candied licorice on the back half. Finishes on a suave note of candied flowers, delivering mounting tannins and superb energy and focus."
91-93 - Vinous

Yves Cuilleron Côte-Rôtie Bonnivieres -
$74.95
Very ripe, dark poached plum and plum paste with dark chocolate and wild herbs, star anise and clove. The savory complexity is impressive. The palate runs the same. Cedary and sappy oak has a big impact, red plums are tightly coiled, tannins assertive. Powerful wine that needs time.
