Wirsching Silvaner, Iphofer Kalb 2016
“The site for Iphofer Kalb is a steep slope exposed to the south. The gypsum soil warms up easily which leads to elegant wines with fresh and vital flavors and a fine fruitiness. The mild climate and the long vegetation period enable the vines to collect many minerals from the dark gypsum soil. This results in fruity and substantial wines.”

“Grown on all iron-infused Devon Slate, this wine tastes like biting into a ripe white peach, juicy, rich, creamy and sweet, with a full aroma. The wine offers great minerality and beautiful acidity to balance the sweetness. Most of the fruit comes from the famous grand cru vineyard site “Würzgarten” (spice garden) in the village of Ürzig, which gives the wine its spicy profile.”

“This stunning Kabinett offers notes of white flower notes and fine mineral tones in the nose. On the palate it exhibits a dominant mineral structure with juicy white peach, spice, and a firm tangy acidity. The finish is long with a hint of red fruit. This Kabinett is sourced from the original part of the Würzgarten (the vines are between 60-100 years old).”

“This wine is late harvested, 10+ year old Riesling from the Marcobrunn, one of the greatest, most historically important vineyards in Germany. Fresh straw, flowers and fruit jump from the nose after a few seconds of swirling. Still clear and pale in the glass. The texture is rich and sexy, a sweet style, lightly honeyed in the mouth with apricots and other pit fruits dominant. Definitively Rheinish. A faint toastiness and petrol enhances the finish, reminding one this is a mature Riesling. A rare experience.”
