Luigi Anania (with vineyards in the Sant'Angelo in Colle subzone) is a tried and true Brunello traditionalist who ages his wine in large oak casks for three and a half years. Despite that delicate approach, this wine is packed tight with power, color, enduring intensity and brooding masculinity. Instead of obvious fruit tones, your senses are awarded an exciting medley of balsam herb, cola, licorice and blackcurrant. This Brunello is dark, savory . . . . Despite its youth, it already shows a high level of complexity."

"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is quite open-knit, radiant and accessible. Raspberry jam, white pepper, flowers, mint and sweet spices hove on the palate in a decidedly mid-weight Brunello that emphasizes grace and agility. The persistent, textured finish is striking. It will be interesting to see if the 2009 puts on weight in bottle, or if it remains the slghtly fragile, fleeting wine it is today. Stella di Campalto's wines never lack intrigue, that is for sure."
