“This year I again met with Rose-Marie Ponsot and winemaker Alexandre Abel, who noted that 2019 is a ‘really beautiful vintage that gave us superb raw materials that were both clean and ripe to work with. We picked from the 17th to the 27th of September and there really wasn't much sorting required as the fruit had few imperfections. Yields though were definitely on the low side due mostly to a troubled flowering and the hot and very dry summer. We were down around 30% overall and the Clos de la Roche came in at 22 hl/ha. There were no problems with the vinifications, in fact they were easy to manage as the level of extractability was quite high. The malos also completed without any difficulties and the post-malo pHs averaged right at 3.3, which is surprising considering how warm the summer days were, especially when there were two periods, one in June and another in July, where temperatures hit 40° C. Regarding the wines, they are wonderfully fresh and refreshing with excellent terroir transparency. Everyone should like them for the simple reason that there's nothing to dislike.’”

CHAPELLE-CHAMBERTIN 2019

"The Chapelle-Chambertin is permitted a slightly longer vinification at slightly lower temperatures than the other re wines. It is the first to eb picked and the last to be decanted out of the fermentation vats. It has paid dividends this year. The colour offers a wealth of exuberant deep purple. The nose too is joyous, making an immediate statement of ripe but delightful deep raspberry and succulent strawberry fruit. There is a wealth of fruit right across the palate then this same strong mineral acidity to finish. The fruit seems to darken (in a good way) in the glass. This is going to be pretty special."

CHARMES-CHAMBERTIN CUVÉE DES MERLES 2019

“Aromas of peonies, cinnamon, orange rind, plums and warm spices introduce the 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée des Merles, a full-bodied, layered and enveloping wine that's seamless and complete. Lively but gourmand, this is one of the highlights of the Ponsot portfolio this year.”

CLOS DE LA ROCHE CUVÉE VIEILLES VIGNES 2019

"A cool, pure and highly complex nose combines aromas of essence of plum liqueur, black cherry, violet, earth and plenty of spice components. The sense of refinement continues on the sleek, succulent and almost lacy mineral-driven and wonderfully textured medium weight flavors that deliver superb persistence on the exceptionally firm, beautifully balanced and youthfully austere finale. It's not all the time that Clos de la Roche is described as a wine of class but in 2019, this wine has that highly desirable attribute.”

CLOS DE VOUGEOT CUVÉE VIEILLES VIGNES 2019

"The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is showing brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with aromas of red berries, plums and cassis mingled with warm spices, incense and rich soil tones. Full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular, with a deep core of fruit, ripe and powdery tannins and lively balancing acids, it will reward patience."

CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE 2019

"A mix of Le Charlemagne and Languettes. Very pale lemon colour. The nose shows a little bit of fresh melon and honeysuckle, more floral than heavy, nicely balanced, lemon scented behind, still floral, never heavyweight but with a tensile strength and good length."

LAURENT PONSOT
CHARMES-CHAMBERTIN CUVÉE DU CYPRÈS 2019

"From a parcel located in Charmes, down-slope from Chambertin, this is slightly backwards at present, with a bit of reduction, but behind these aromas there is plenty of sumptuous, bright red berry fruit. The texture is firm and fresh, with the grip and intensity to age well. Although it does not have the intensity or persistence of the Chambertin, it resembles it in its vibrant elegance and balance."

CLOS DE VOUGEOT CUVÉE DU CÈDRE 2019

"Powerful mid purple colour. The bouquet is reserved, however. There is a fine wealth of fruit though on the palate, with some mineral tension to finish, very youthful. A medium-bodied but very promising Clos de Vougeot."
