You are invited to join Spectrum Wine Auctions and the iconic Château Angélus for a special Spring tasting menu at Fig & Olive in Newport Beach.

We are honored to be joined for this very special event by the estate's Executive Manager Stéphanie De Boüard.

With history dating back to the de Boüard family's arrival in the ancient city of Saint-Émilion in 1782, Château Angélus
has over the last century come to be regarded as one of the finest and most ageworthy wines of Bordeaux.

We will be pouring some of the Château's greatest vintages dating back to the extraordinary 1989 vintage.

We will also be pouring wines from one of the world's oldest and most historic wine estates, in which Angélus proprietor Hubert de Boüard has been involved since 2012 - South Africa's great Klein Constantia.

Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc Perdeblokke 2014
"The name Perdeblokke, refers to the horses that tilled the soils of the steep slopes that lie 200-220 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Constantiaberg mountain. Since it was planted, the Perdeblokke has yielded top quality and a distinctly unique Sauvignon Blanc, which prompted the decision to produce this special label wine in 2005. It is only made in years of exceptional quality. Straw-like in appearance with a light green tint. An intense nose that bursts with aromas of blackcurrant, fig and flint. The palate is rich and complex with a crisp minerality that truly expresses the Perdeblokke terroir. Complimented by a fine acidity, the wine concludes with a long and powerful finish." - KleinConstantia.com

Château Angélus 2010
"This is another magnificent wine . . . . The 2010 has a similar color to the 2009, but is perhaps even more opaque, which seems almost impossible. Subtle barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry liqueur, licorice and chocolate jump from the glass, and the wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of sweet, velvety, full-bodied, concentrated black fruits, nice definition from the tannins and decent acidity. The wine has a majestic, multilayered finish that goes on for a minute. This magnificent wine is still frightfully young and still somewhat unformed, but every bit as prodigious as its older sibling, the 2009. This will probably end up evolving on a slightly slower evolutionary track. However, it has 50 years of longevity in it."

Château Angélus 2009
“A candidate for perfection with a few more years of bottle age, this great vintage of Angelus has an almost impenetrable black/purple color and a gorgeous nose of incense, graphite, blackberry liqueur, truffles and spring flowers. The wine is full-bodied, with a voluptuous texture a magnificent concentration and purity of fruit, a stunning finish of close to a minute, and wonderfully sweet, velvety tannins that make for a prodigious Angelus that should turn out to be one of the all-time greats ever made at this estate. Drink it over the next 25-50 years.”

Château Angélus 2006
"Tasted blind . . . . I like this nose - no, I love this nose! . . . . succinctly delineated, with broody blackberry, plum, crushed stone and a faint touch of chocolate and fresh dates. Just wonderful! The palate is medium-bodied, rounded and generous with sensational depth of flavour. Firm tannins, yet cloaked in ethereal black, mocha-tinged fruit with a persistent finish to die for. This is one of the best wines in recent years. Could it be Hubert de Boüard’s greatest achievement to date? Quite possibly."

Château Angélus 2000
"Approaching perfection, this wine is inky, bluish/purple-colored to the rim, offering up notes of incense, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, licorice, graphite and spring flowers. A touch of roasted espresso bean is also present. The wine has great concentration, a magnificent, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. This beauty seems to be in mid-adolescence with at least 25-30 years of life ahead."

Château Angélus 1998
". . . the 1998 Angélus shows a saturated opaque, plum/purple color and a beautiful fragrance of blueberry and black raspberries with licorice, asphalt, truffle and a touch of white chocolate. Beautiful texture, full-bodied opulence, striking purity and overall equilibrium make for a stunning wine . . .”

Château Angélus 1990
"A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, this is clearly the greatest Angelus until the 2000, 2003 and then the perfect 2005. Beautiful, sweet plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit soar from the glass of this opaque, purple wine that still hasn’t lost much in color. Deep, opulent, voluptuously textured, full-bodied and multidimensional, this is a stunner and just now approaching its plateau of full maturity . . ."

Château Angélus 1989
“One of the finest vintages made at the estate, the Chateau Angelus 1989 has a very intense, powerful bouquet with blackberry, cedar, cooked meat and a little Christmas cake. Whereas the 1990 gives you everything up front, the 1989 is far more coquettish and takes time to unfold. The palate is very smooth on the entry, beautifully balanced with filigree tannins. There is an edginess to the 1989, much more feminine with a touch of truffle, coca and pepper on the finish. Wonderful, a wine at its peak, although it shows no signs of flagging.”

Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2007
"It has an explosive bouquet that sprints out of the blocks with a more effervescent, vivacious personality than the 2008. Citrus lemon, Seville orange marmalade, touches of mandarin and a dash of spice all vie for attention. The aromatics are more Sauternes-like than the 2008. The palate is very well-balanced with a viscous opening, a keen thread of acidity and a bewitching sense of poise and focus. This is probably the finest Vin de Constance to date as it fans out marvellously on the multi-layered finish. This is a startling, world-class wine that gives d’Yquem a run for its money."
