"As I wrote last year, this seven-hectare estate in Savigny-lès-Beaune is an underrated source for keenly priced and high-quality red Burgundy. Winemaking is classical, the reds fermenting in wooden tanks with temperature control, followed by élevage with modest percentages of new wood. The wines age very well, as I can attest, having tasted the emblematic Serpentières back to the 1947 vintage. When I tasted them from barrel, I admired the pure and supple 2017s and prophesied that they would offer a great deal of near-term charm, with the Serpentières, Gravins and Corton possessing the most potential longevity and incipient complexity. From bottle, that judgement was confirmed. And on the same visit, I was delighted to see that Vincent Guillemot has also produced a superb range of 2018s: richer and more textural than the 2017s, certainly, but similarly charming. In short, readers bemoaning the lack of fine, affordable Burgundy from the Côte d'Or should beat a path to the Guillemot family's door."
