“In among the gnarled veterans of the hillsides is Jacques Leménicier, with a brief beard and pony tail more like the rock music man than the country music follower .... 'I was 17, and thought I'd work with Alain Voge to earn my living - I didn't have any great aim beyond that,' he recounts. It was 1982, and Jacques also helped out a local man related by marriage to his sister. 'He had a car accident in 1983 that ruled him out of work, so I have stayed with those vines ever since,' he continues in his soft tone .... His largest plot is on the granite of St-Pierre, where he started with the rental of one hectare in 1984 - a site he cleared and planted himself in 1982, next to the Jaboulet parcel .... One of his choice older lieux-dits is his 0.7ha on Pigeonnier, part of Mazards. The oldest 20% dates from 1903, the rest is a mix of 1950s and recent renewal. On Saveaux (1950s) he has 0.5ha, and on Combe 0.35ha (2002)."
John Livingstone-Learmonth, The Wines of the Northern Rhône
"Still flying under the radar in export markets, Jacques Leménicier has for years been doing a brisk business in France .... Leménicier, who worked for nine years at Alain Voge before setting out on his own, now owns seven hectares of vines, split roughly evenly between Cornas and Saint-Péray. His winemaking is, as he puts it, 'as minimal as possible' .... While plenty concentrated, they land on the elegant side for the appellation and show best after a couple years of bottle age, when they've had the chance to unwind a bit.

JACQUES LEMÉNICIER
CORNAS 2020
"Inky violet color. Lively, spice-tinged black and blue fruit liqueur aromas show sharp definition and pick up floral and incense nuances with air. Subtly chewy and focused on the palate, offering juicy blueberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors that are braced by a core of juicy acidity. Finishes sappy, sweet and quite long, with steadily building tannins and resonating blue fruit character."
