| | "For me, personally, it sets a new benchmark for Bordeaux after my first reference vintage for the region from barrel: 1982.” James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, Apr 2023 |
| "The 2022s are some of the most memorable young wines I have ever tasted in Bordeaux. The best 2022s are magnificent, viscerally thrilling wines that show what is possible with thoughtful approaches to viticulture and winemaking. A number of properties at all levels made their best wines ever. Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2023 |
| "Progressive agronomy combined with precisely chosen harvest dates and judicious extraction delivered some of the most exciting red Bordeaux produced in the last two decades." William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2023 |
| | | | | | "A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is deep garnet-purple in color. After a little coaxing, aromas of blackcurrant jelly, juicy plums, and wild blueberries waltz out of the glass, followed by nuances of red roses, damp soil, tar, and licorice. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound, with impressive tension created by mineral-laced, crunchy black fruit layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory." 98-100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, TheWineIndependent.com |
| "One of the gems from Pauillac is unquestionably the 2022 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, which is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. A hypothetical blend of the 2019 and 2020, it's a full-bodied, concentrated, opulent Comtesse offering beautiful blue fruits, some chocolate, leafy herbs, and undeniable minerality, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. Despite the higher Cabernet Sauvignon component, this stays silky, expansive, and incredibly sexy. It's going to be drinkable with just 4-5 years of bottle age but should have a lengthy drink window. Hats off to director Nicolas Glumineau for another legendary wine from this Château." 97-100 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com |
| "The wine is pure silk on the palate. There are no edges or corners. Everything feels in place. It is completely seamless. The wine is pure, fresh, and expansive. The mid-palate picks up its currants and plums, while the finish holds them in place, and expands in all 4 directions, with perfect balance in its 60-second plus finish. This is the best vintage of Pichon Comtesse ever produced." 98-100 Jeff Leve, TheWineCellarInsider.com |
| | | | "The density of fruit is serious with blackcurrants, black berries, crushed stone and coffee beans. Yet it’s not heavy or overdone. The palate is full and rich, but also agile and weightless, with tannins that are spread and pretty." 95-96 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com |
| "Fully ripe fruits, smoky and creamy character with charred raspberry and cassis, violet-edged, pencil lead, bitter chocolate, cocoa dust. An impressive wine, tannins close in a little tightly on the finish, with dried rosemary and black pepper spicy translating the heat of the vintage." 93 Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com |
| | | | "Creamy depths of colour and flavour, powerful damson and black cherry fruits, this is utterly compelling and beautifully concentrated. No question that the tannins are crowding in through the front of the palate, eager to make an impression, but they quickly soften and widen, and in between is air, spice, flowers, just nuanced and beautiful. The power of limestone in hot vintages is on display." 98 Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com |
| "Another wine that's going to flirt with perfection is the 2022 Château Pavie Macquin, and this might be the finest vintage I've ever tasted from this address. A blend of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon, it reveals an inky purple hue as well as a stunning bouquet of pure cassis, liquid black raspberries, truffle, scorched earth, and graphite. Full-bodied, concentrated, and massive on the palate, it may be the largest-scaled Pavie Macquin ever produced. But don't let that scare you off – it stays flawlessly balanced, has pure, fine-grained tannins, and a great finish. I'll be a buyer." 96-98+ Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com |
| | | | "A very juicy and nicely chewy young red with black berry, chocolate and cedar aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with integrated tannins and a fresh and persistent finish."95-96James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com |
| "A serious Pomerol even in the lightest of vintages, so it really can relax into its natural character in 2022. Strict tannins, but that is often the case for this wine, relaxing into liqourice, cocoa bean, espresso, rosemary, underbrush, slightly drying on the finish, but this has a ton of impact, it has all the elements for ageing, an impressive wine." 94 Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com |
| | | | "Attractive dark-berry character with blackberries, blackcurrants, walnuts and dark spices. It’s full-bodied, concentrated and dense with a compact and very fine tannin structure that builds up. It’s deep and balanced with violets and pure blue-fruit undertones. Lingering and very polished finish. Structured and firm." 96-97 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com |
| "The 2022 Château Malescot Saint Exupéry is gorgeous and certainly a Margaux worth seeking out. Dense purple-hued, with a rich, powerful bouquet of ripe black fruits, melted chocolate, smoked tobacco, and spice, it picks up a beautiful floral character with air, is full-bodied, and has a layered, opulent mouthfeel as well as a great finish." 94-96 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com |
| | | | "Juicy and lively, cool and crisp with concentrated but cool tannins that give the structure and density. It's massy, full, and upfront but retains charm in that nothing is harsh, austere, or too spiced. It's full, but there's something very captivating about this; it has excitement and vibrancy and will be totally delicious and moreish when the time is right. Lovely acidity, beautiful red fruits, crisp and tense yet layered and ripe, mineral too." 96 Georgie Hindle, Decanter Magazine

| "The 2022 Cantenac Brown has an elegant nose, showing pure black cherry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant pastilles and cedar aromas. I appreciate the mineralité here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple but firm tannins and nicely structured. There's a crescendo of fruit toward the mineral-driven finish. Cohesive and full of character, this is another superb Margaux from an estate in the ascendant under winemaker José Sanfins." 94-96 Neal Martin, Vinous |
| "A few years ago, this estate purchased 22 additional hectares in the heart of the plateau of Margaux, including old vine Cabernet Sauvignon that is now making an appreciable contribution to the blend, and that helps to explain why the 2022 Cantenac Brown is so good. Unwinding in the glass with notes of dark berries, plums, charcoal, pencil shavings and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and elegantly muscular, with a layered core, refined tannins and a penetrating finish. The finest wine that José Sanfins has produced to date, the 2022 only improved during the several weeks I spent in Bordeaux. It's a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot." 94-96 William Kelley, Wine Advocate |
