Penfolds Grange: Australia’s Most Collectible Wine!

Historically, Penfolds Grange is inseparably linked to winemaker Max Schubert whose work on Grange was inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux. Long regarded to be Australia’s “First Growth” wine, Schubert first began to produce Grange in 1951 with the goal of emulating the wines of this historically important region. The first commercial release of Grange was in 1952. Schubert continued to secretly vinify Grange even after the winery decided to discontinue production. Upon re-visiting his earlier productions and discovering their age-worthiness, production was “officially” re-started by Penfolds in 1960.

In fact, Penfolds Grange has always possessed an uncanny ability to age well and withstand the rigors of time. This, along with its refined complexity and flavorfully balanced delineation of fruit, oak and terroir, explains its ongoing popularity amongst wine collectors from around the world.
