“In the last couple of months I tasted my way through quite a few 2019 Barbaresco samples that were so good that it seems 2019 could be in the same league as the outstanding 2010 and 2016 vintages. It would make it the third outstanding vintage within a decade, but can Barbaresco really be that lucky? Producers themselves seem to think so …. Elegance is the key word in understanding the 2019 Barbaresco vintage, which continues along the stylistic road embarked on back in 2016 in a most convincing way. If consistently high quality throughout is a characteristic of a truly great vintage, 2019 has this in spades.” Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com |

"Over the years, this estate has perfected a house style based on feminine grace and elegance. Subtle sensorial differences based solely on cru selection distinguish each wine. Those fascinating individual characteristics will appeal to those who love to taste across the single vineyards of Barbaresco. In fact, Sottimano offers one of the most exciting collection of territory-based expression of Nebbiolo to be found in the appellation." Monica Larner, Wine Advocate |

"Today, the approach to farming is decidedly less interventionalist than in the past. Sottimano no longer uses pesticides and herbicides. Yields aren't quite as dramatically low as they once were. The same hands-off approach carries through to winemaking. Cool temperatures encourage slow and long malolactic fermentations, a long aging on the lees with minimal rackings, an approach that is much more typical in Burgundy than it is in Piedmont. Today's wines are transparent, crystalline and full of personality. There is no question quality has never been higher." Antonio Galloni, Vinous |

"Here's a beautifully elegant and fine expression of Nebbiolo from Treiso. The Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Pajoré shows an earthy personality with crushed stone and potting soil that frame a pretty core of red and purple fruits. I love the depth and complexity of this wine and the slightly more structured tannins that give this wine power and importance." 95 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"Moccagatta has been on a roll of late. For some reason, this small, family-run estate doesn't seem to get a lot of attention in some circles …. It's pretty tough to beat Moccagatta for quality and value these days." Antonio Galloni, Vinous |
|
"The Minuto family has been growing grapes since the 1800s, starting with great-great-grandfather Giovanni Minuto. Over the years, each successive generation (great-grandfather Luigi, grandfather Mario, followed by brothers Sergio and Franco) has made important contributions to elevate this estate’s status to one of the finest in Barbaresco." "The 2019 Barbaresco Bric Balin is going to be superb, once it softens. All the energy of this cool year comes through in a mid-weight, focused Barbaresco endowed with real drive. Readers need to be patient with the 2019, but it’s a gorgeous wine in the making." Antonio Galloni, Vinous |
