| "This is a great time to enjoy the celebrated wines of Maculan. The vineyards are in their prime production years, having now celebrated their 20th birthday." Monica Larner, Wine Advocate |
| | | "The winery to know in Breganze, and the one that defines the region entirely in an international perspective, is Maculan.
Today, the management of the winery and vineyards is split between the third generation of the family, Angela and Maria Vittoria Maculan, but with their father, Fausto, still involved in the daily operations .... and Maculan continues to impress. The house is notable for its sweet wines, produced using Vespaiola and Moscato. These wines have the ability to age for the long term and depth that can compete with some of the great dessert wines around the world .... That said, Maculan excels with its lineup of Bordeaux blends, which are on the same level as the best that Italy has to offer.
The winery and vineyards are in Breganze, a small town in the Province of Vicenza, northeast of Verona. The vineyards are planted on hilly terrain with volcanic soils, a strong confluence of cooling effects from the mountainous north, and warm currents from the south and the Adriatic Sea. This region is littered with vineyards, yet most producers choose to sell their fruit or remain purely local. Maculan, on the other hand, saw the potential here very early ..." Eric Guido, Vinous |
| | "Angela Maculan's family winery has been at the forefront of the DOC's quality drive for decades." Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator |
| | 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on exposed volcanic and tuffaceous hillside sites; manually harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks with 8 days of maceration and pigeage; aged for 1 year in French oak barrique, 50% new and 50% second use |
| ‣ "The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Palazzotto tempts the imagination with a darkly floral bouquet that mixes rich black cherry sauce with graphite, sage and shavings of pine. Silky smooth and supple, this finds a lovely balance through a core of tart red and black fruits and crunchy mineral tones that ride a wave of tantalizing acidity. A web of fine tannins descends on the palate as the 2020 finishes long and lightly structured, leaving a peppery herbal thrust that lingers on.
This classy Cabernet Sauvignon is impossible to ignore and should drink beautifully ..."93 Eric Guido, Vinous |
