| | “I’m the generation after 1968. I really took advantage of all the battles of the women who came before me for liberation, the opportunity to choose what I wanted to do in complete freedom. When you have total freedom, that’s when you appreciate most what you have.” – Chiara Boschis
Chiara Boschis is an artisan grower, whose philosophy is to craft wines that combine the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability, balance, intense aromatics and elegance. Chiara Boschis is widely recognized as one of the pioneer women winemakers in Barolo, though her family has a long (nine generations) history of winemaking. In 1980, the Boschis family (of Giacomo Borgogno e Figli) acquired the E.Pira & Figli estate, thus procuring some of the most prestigious land in Barolo. She officially took the reins in 1990, quickly affirming her position as the “Barolo Girl.” A close friend of Chiara had been working in the Mosconi cru for some years: the late Domenico Clerico sourced his Percristina Barolo from this Monforte vineyard. So when she heard of an old vines parcel becoming available there, she leapt at the chance. It was her first foray outside of the town of Barolo, and it immediately provided a point of contrast to her Cannubi—deep, dark colors, rich structure, and power all emanate from her Barolo Mosconi—which helps to shine a light on the elegance and perfume of her Cannubi.
The Mosconi Barolo is a rich, powerful wine, yet quite approachable already. Decant it for 2-4 hours and it will reward you immensely!

| ▪ "Red/ruby in color, the 2020 Barolo Mosconi is more red-fruited on the nose, with lifted freshness in its delicate spice of red raspberry, anise, dried roses, and dusty earth. It has a more linear feel, with ripe tannins, a chalky texture, and wonderful, pure notes of apricot on the finish. An absolutely gorgeous red, the 2020 vintage for Cannubi really shines and Chiara has knocked it out of the park."98 Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2024
▪ "Dried oyster savoriness and intriguing wet stones with a touch of nice peppercorn funk to the cherries, hibiscus and plums. Broad and compact on the palate with a full body and plump morello cherries in the middle. Quite expansive and long, but transparent. Even more powerful than her exciting Cannubi from this vintage. From organically grown grapes. Drink from 2027." 97 James Suckling, Sep 2024
▪ "The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Mosconi has some of the extra ripeness of the vintage with cherry cream syrup, grenadine, watermelon candy and a drop of Pastis. The wine ends on a powerful note with a balanced combination of fruit and fine oak tannins. The palate is very alive, and the fruit feels very vibrant at this young stage." 96 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Apr 2024
