| | Nicolas Thienpont, best known for his perennially outstanding properties, Pavie Macquin and Larcis Ducasse, understands and respects terroir to a degree that allows his wines to express themselves with a purity that is both understated and powerful. With this same philosophy, Thienpont also produces a lesser-known ‘gem’ of a white Bordeaux at Chateau Les Charmes-Gordard. His respectful and fine-tuned approach is no different at this tiny estate, with its predominance of Semillon and fermentation in 500L barrels, followed by maturation 'sur lie' for 6 months. The result is a uniquely expressive white Bordeaux that stands apart from its peers at any price. A blend of 60% Semillon, 25% Savignon Gris, 15% Savignon Blanc, this is a clean, elegant white that belies its price. |

“The 2021 Les Charmes Godard is mostly Sémillon in this vintage, with smaller pieces of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. In 2021, Les Charmes Godard is brighter and more focused than in the past. Time in bottle will help release some its underlying texture, but readers won't find the softer contours that are typical here. As has been the custom for a number of years, it was vinified and aged in 500-liter barrels, but with the malolactic fermentation blocked.” 92
