PITTSBURGH, PA — Women Empowered for Entrepreneurial Excellence (WEEE), along with Bethany Community Ministries (BCM) based in Homewood, received a grant which they have been using to help professional caterers who are suffering financially during this time of COVID-19 while in turn giving back to the community. The caterers are hired to create a special meal that will be available to the public. A small donation of your choice is all that’s asked for the meal. Additionally, 100 meals are provided to those in the community that cannot afford to donate.
The caterer for this Friday will be Kahila Miller of Caribbean Village who will prepare a traditional Caribbean meal consisting of chicken curry, cabbage, and rice, and peas. Meals will be available on Friday, August 28, 2020, starting at Noon until 2 p.m. at the BCM location at 7745 Tioga Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15208.
Alice Williams, Executive Director of WEEE says, “At a time when everyone is hurting, this grant enables us to give back to the community in an area considered a food desert and also stimulate economic development by hiring caterers that have been hit hard during this time.”
Since the coronavirus pandemic, Bethany Community Ministries has been consistently serving as much as 400 nutritious meals a week through their Master's Kitchen staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers. However, this Friday is unique in that it will offer another caterer in the region the opportunity to do what they love to do and get paid for it at a time when most catering businesses are slow.
