Ron Stallworth was a young police detective in Colorado Springs when he happened upon a stunning assignment: infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan. In 1979, Stallworth spotted a newspaper advertisement recruiting new members to the white supremacist group. He posed as a racist and responded to the ad, launching a nine-month investigation into the organization as an undercover officer. 

The biggest surprise of all: Stallworth is black. 

His story is captured in a 2014 autobiography that was adapted into the recently released Spike Lee film,”BlacKkKlansman.”
