Since 2010, the Legacy Arts Project (LAP) has hosted the renowned Dance Africa: Pittsburgh, bringing artists from the region and around the country to showcase dance of the African diaspora. Started by the late and majestic ‘Baba’ Chuck Davis more than 40 years ago in Brooklyn, New York, Dance Africa has served as the fertile grounds for showcasing the richness of African dance. For this celebration of our 10th year, we host artists representing Ghana, Guinea, Senegal, Cuba, and the United States.

Composed of dance workshops, an African marketplace, and three days of adult, youth, and community performances, this year’s event is anchored in the theme of, “Past, Present, Future”, engaging participants in a journey of remembrance, reflection, and revolution. Our program brings us face to face with recalling our greatness and adapting ourselves to a reality where we honor who we are, where we come from, and our aspirations for the future.
