An honors graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in Political Science and History, and then of Harvard University with a JD, Gail began her legal career with Williams and Jensen in Washington, DC before becoming legal counsel for both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. Answering a mid-career call to ministry, Gail earned her MDiv from Howard University. Called to both teaching and campus ministry at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Spelman and Dillard Universities, and Berea College, she devoted her energies to helping college students examine life’s existential questions within the context of their faith. It was at Berea, while teaching two classes on the Black Church in the U.S., that she began to ask herself questions about the historical context of African Americans in our society.
Now in her third career as researcher & writer, Pastor Bowman is wrestling with the crucial issue of the systematic omission of African Americans from History. Along with Carter G. Woodson, Gail believes that if you don’t know the story of your people, you’re doomed forever to be a footnote in history. Please join us!
