Ace Hotel and Martin Guitar have extended their 2016 partnership, joining forces with Pittsburgh-based multidisciplinary creative problem solvers The Good Peoples Group to collaborate on Up and Comin’, a mini grant initiative. Grants will be awarded in amounts between $500 and $2000 for emerging musicians, songwriters and noise artists whose work demonstrates the breadth of creativity that is central to the city’s culture.
The heart of a city is its creatives, its collective spaces and its local shops and purveyors. The funds from these mini grants are designed to provide local Pittsburgh musicians with the means to further their practice, whether that requires hiring a lawyer to draft a tour agreement, designing a new website or buying studio time to record an EP. The mission here is to support and perpetuate Pittsburgh’s vibrant music scene while galvanizing the city’s cultural communities by encouraging innovative and generative projects. All funds distributed through the Up and Comin’ grant program are slated to be spent within Pittsburgh. Through The Good Peoples Group’s direct sourcing stipulation, local favorites will be able to support their own local favorites.
Grant applications are open from July 18–August 15, and recipients will be awarded at the end of August. Projects funded must be completed by October 30. Any Pittsburgh resident over the age of 15 is eligible to apply via a video entry.
