Local Fundraising Efforts To provide 5,000 Pittsburgh Area Students With free Viewings Of the movie “SELMA” At Local Theaters
The Pittsburgh-area business community is collaborating with community organizations to reach a fundraising goal of $50,000 TO SEND 5,000 Pittsburgh area youths of Allegheny County and Westmoreland County from various programs, organizations, Middle and High School Students to view the film, “Selma,” a Best Picture-nominated film about the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Organizers hope that sharing an artistic representation of this historical period with students will encourage civic engagement and critical thinking about voting and civil rights.The movie viewing will be followed by two community forums. One organized facilitated by Pittsburgh youths at The Kelly Strayhorn Theater and a inter-generational Town Hall conversation at a later to be named date/venue.
