Moore, on-air host at WQED; and Harold Hayes, reporter at KDKA-TV, attend PBMF’s 40/30 Anniversary Gala on Sept. 20, 2013, at the University of Pittsburgh. The gala included the Robert L. Vann Media Awards.
The Robert L. Vann Media Awards contest recognizes excellence in print, broadcast, photography and online coverage of the African-American community of Western Pennsylvania. The 2014 winners will be announced at an awards program Sept. 4 at the University of Pittsburgh’s O’Hara Student Center, 4024 O’Hara St., Oakland.
The cocktail reception will start at 6 p.m. The awards program will start at 6:30 p.m.

Reception tickets are $10 each for PBMF members and $15 each for nonmembers.

Sponsorship packages can be purchased online, also. They are as follows:
- Sponsorship package 1, $350: half-page program ad, eight tickets and recognition at the reception.
- Sponsorship package 2, $700: full-page program ad inside, eight tickets and recognition at the reception.
- Sponsorship package 3 (title sponsor), $1,000: full back-page program ad, eight tickets, recognition at the reception and social media engagement.
In 1988, the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation established the Robert L. Vann Awards to honor excellence in journalism coverage of the African-American community. The contest is open to all communicators for newspapers, magazines, wire services, websites, radio and television stations in Western Pennsylvania.
