Music and Activism Come Together for Reimagine Justice Event
Community Event Raises Awareness About Voting and Justice Reform
Revolve Impact, AFL-CIO, and 1Hood host Reimagine Justice on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at Kelly Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty. Featuring a variety of speakers and live performances, the free community event is open to all ages aims to raise awareness about the issue of mass incarceration and to mobilize young people and workers out to vote in the upcoming election.
“In this current election season, more than ever, our unity is imperative,” says Jasiri. “Collectively, our voices need to combine to address social injustice, harmful rhetoric and, most importantly, we need to vote our interest. I am joining this action to encourage those of like minds to speak out, connect, and vote in the interest of our community.”
The town hall and concert features speakers such as Allegheny County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Wilkinsburg City Councilwoman Marita Garrett, President Leo Gerard of the United Steelworkers, President Randi Weingarten of the American Federation of Teachers, and many more.
In addition to speakers, the event features performances by Jasiri X, Mike De La Rocha, Soul Raydio, Jacquea Mae, Idasa Tariq, Blak Rapp Madusa, Livefromthecity, Luc, Tyhir Frost, Jordan Montgomery, and DJ QRX.
