The Academy, a program of the Iota Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., has been named in honor of the work, life and ideas of our fraternity brother and the founder of the Association for the Study of Afro American Life and History, Dr. Carter G. Woodson.
Held at the Kingsley Association, in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood, the Academy extends from 10 am to 1 pm for 10 Saturdays, beginning February 7, 2015 and culminating April 11, 2015.
Rooting its approach in African American culture and being intentional about preparing African American youth to serve in the African American community, the Academy teaches Art, History and Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM).
This year the Academy will have as its historical and arts theme “Black Youth in the Black Community’s Fight for Freedom” and we’ll focus on aspects of the history and art of youth who have been a part of this battle. The STEM classes will focus on learning about ecosystems.

"If a race has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated." -- Carter G. Woodson
