Kente Arts Alliance presents Louis Hayes Quintet Saturday, December 9, 2017 | 8PM Venue: The New Hazlett Theater
Jazz drummer Louis Hayes was a teenager when he journeyed from his native Detroit to join legendary pianist, bandleader and composer Horace Silver in New York. The stretch with Silver was a period of unsurpassed excellence for hard-bop, where Hayes remained at the center even after leaving Silver’s band. For his latest project, Louis Hayes pays homage to Horace Silver with Serenade for Horace, his Blue Note Records debut as a leader. “I wanted to do this recording for Horace Silver because I wanted jazz fans to hear his music and I wanted to honor his memory.”
