Lead singer on the song Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Glenn Miller’s biggest hit nominated for best song and was awarded the first Gold Record for sales of 1.2 million! These are but a few of the Achievements by Dorothy Dandridge in spite of the racism and bigotry towards her and others. Hollywood could not or would not find suitable roles for her like her white counterparts Ava Gardner and Marilyn Monroe. This devastated Dorothy both personally and professionally yet she continued on in spite of it.
Halle Berry once said, “She’s such an important figure, I’m proof of that. Every black actress who is working in Hollywood is proof of that”. Dorothy Dandridge once said, “If I were white, I could capture the world."
Dorothy also said, "It (prejudice) is such a waste. It makes you logy and half-alive. It gives you nothing. It takes away." Today, we celebrate You Dorothy Dandridge for your life and legacy.
