Celebrate the birth of hip hop with Multiple Choice Events: Hip Hop Edition, featuring EPMD. Once described as “the rap equivalent of a rock & roll garage band,” golden age hip-hop group EPMD (stands for “Erick and Parrish Making Dollars”) will be touring select cities celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Strictly Business. Known for its lighthearted party raps and funky sample-reliant production, Erick Sermon (aka Double E) and Parrish Smith (aka Pee MD)’s Strictly Business blended suburban angst with the hardcore edge of their inner-city rap brethren. The group’s self-produced raw, bass-heavy rhythm tracks were fortified liberally by sampled loops (Steve Miller’s “Fly Like an Eagle,” Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff”). Propelled by several strong singles (including “You Gots to Chill” and the title track), Strictly Business earned RIAA gold album certification within four months of its release, and was listed as one of the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
Supporting Acts: DJ Selecta, Track Meet Cypher featuring Reason, EOS, Moemaw Naedon, Akono Miles.
Or join us at 9 p.m. for a Dance Battle After Party featuring local freestyle dance performers and breakers.
Food truck entry is free, and food will be available to purchase throughout the evening. Let us know you are coming to the food trucks by registering in advance for a chance to win tickets to a future Multiple Choice Event.
Ages 21+ only for the Dance Battle After Party. All ages for the EPMD and Food Trucks.
