Candace King Williams will present the Beautiful, Brown BOLD Women Project and photo shoot beginning at Freedom Corner, at the corner of Centre Avenue and Crawford Street, Hill District, Pittsburgh, PA on January 31, 2016, featuring 100 beautiful, brown BOLD women from the Pittsburgh region to do a photoshoot to empower women of color while bringing to light issues that the women of this area face from gun violence, health issues, wage gap issues and the constant battle of self-worth.
The purpose of this project is to uplift women of color while making a BOLD statement of strength and femininity. To accomplish this statement, 100 Beautiful Brown BOLD women styled by local volunteer stylists, will take to the streets of the City of Pittsburgh for a photo shoot (shot by local volunteer photographers and photography students) of key destinations in our city that represent the true characteristics of the women of our city? class, style, strength, love for sports and culture.
The subjects of the shoot will range in age from 25-45 years old, vary in “look” and will come from all walks of life and different areas in the Pittsburgh region. Each will tell a story of how they remain beautiful and BOLD in spite of challenges faced by women of color in the Pittsburgh region daily. Many of these women have been directly impacted by gun violence, sexual violence, health disparities, under education, lack of career opportunities and the challenges of parenthood. Model submissions were accepted until January 15, 2016.
In conclusion of the project, on June 19, 2016, an art gallery will display each woman with her story of triumph to an audience of political and community leaders, local fashionistas and artists and peers in hopes of support for organizations in the Pittsburgh region that help this underrepresented group. We would like to request media coverage of this worthwhile project.
