Hi Friend

Vine Top 10 July/August
Once again the task was set to find value for money wines for our loyal wine club members and to our surprise the standard was way up on previous tastings.
The general consensus was the reds were of exceptional standard and value with over 100 being put through the class and over 6 hitting the mark whilst only 3 whites were selected and 1 lonely sparkling.
At Vine our survival in a highly competitive market is derived by our standards and belief that “We will not sell anything that we are not happy to drink ourselves”!

Congratulations to Alyson on being this months winner of our magnum giveaway.
This month our giveaway is a Magnum of Domaine Naturaliste Rebus Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 (This was the highest scoring red under $70 in Gourmet Traveller)
And the Winners are:
Domaine de La Grande Cote Brut NV ( French Sparkling)
When considering champagne as an aperitif or celebration mostly we forget Burgundy and look towards champagne But Unless you have $60+, the best alternative that on many occasions will WOW your guests is a sparkling from Burgundy and this is a great example.
Fine approachable bead with aromas of brioche, pear and stone fruits leading to a complex palate and cleansing acidity balanced and pure!

Nova Vita Sauvignon Blanc 2014 (Adelaide Hills SA)
A bouquet of tropical fruits, passionfruit and some spices, the palate is delicately balanced between fruit weight and cleansing acidity.
Adelaide Hills is consistently the best place in OZ to get this varietal from, and a GOLD Medal awarded at the Adelaide Wine Show is confirmation of quality by the Locals.

Laurenz Singing Gruner Veltliner 2013 (Austria)
Considered the unofficial national grape of Austria, Grüner has been piquing the interest of wine lovers around the world.
A very attractive fruit bouquet yields apple, peach and citrus aromas along with a typical Veltliner spiciness and a touch of white pepper. The soft and juicy palate is supported by fine acidity. It sings on the palate!

Artigiano Grillo 2014 (Sicily Italy)
We stumbled across this little known wine a few years ago and it took the Vine store by storm, once the Wine club got the news it sold out But like all wines it’s all about vintage and the next (2013) was a little hard in southern Italy.
Well in 2014 it’s Back to its best!
Exotic fruits such as paw paw, mango, banana with mouth filling richness and all held in tight with nice acidity and LOOK at the Price!

Astrolabe Wairua Valley Pinot Noir 2014 (Marlborough NZ)
Astrolabe has really hit the mark with this youthful style reliant on clean pure fruit expression but by no means simple.
Displaying delicate aromas of xmas cherries, red florals feminine and bright. The palate is juicy with red currants, sour cherry and almost crunchy freshness.
We think it’s a wine that could be drunk all day without any effort.

Bonnachi Chianti Reserva 2010 (Tuscany Italy)
Dark plums, sour cherry, spice and some developing leathery complexity round out a very challenging wine that needs food to really hit its straps.
Palate is generously weighted broody muscular fruit weight and a very interesting caramel oak integration.
A Reserva wine for the regular chianti with the bonus of bottle age is unheard of so grab a few as this won’t last!

Single Step Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 (Hilltops NSW)
Cabernet Sauvignon is a very site specific wine and often a blend is better than a straight varietal for this reason. Even more so it like Pinot Noir, the inexpensive ones are underwhelming But in this case we were gobsmacked.
This wine displays aromas of dark plums, cassis and spicy oak all in a neat package with some grippy structural tannin to boot!
This
Probably the best value for money Cabernet Sauvignon seen in Vine since taking over the mother ship in 2005!

The Cultivator Organic Shiraz 2014 (McLaren Vale SA)
David Paxton was an early adopter of NASAA which stands for National Association Of Sustainable Agriculture.
But unlike many other producers especially in the Value for Money category this Organic wine displays ripe, opulent and fresh fruit.
Whilst simplistic and easy to drink this wine is ever so Quaffable and for all those organic lovers this is the real deal.

Main & Cherry Shiraz 2013 (Adelaide Hills)
Michael Sexton is the winemaker and from everything he has showed Vine it all says “Does not Compromise Quality” and “Always Over-delivers”.
This hits the mark with rich ripe cherry, plum, spices and interesting hint of eucalypt dense but elegantly poised to entice the punter as well as capture the enthusiast.
This in a very competitive line up was a must have and once you taste it will become a staple go to wine For Sure 100%.

Teusner Bilmore Shiraz 2014 (Barossa Valley SA)
Teusner is a partnership between former Tobreck winemaker Kym Teusner and brother in law Michael Page, and is typical of the new wave of winemakers determined to protect very old, low yielding, dry grown Barossa vines.
“The wine is right in the groove. Slick, sweet fruited and exhuberant. Smoked blackberries, straps of licorice, juicy plums and raspberries”
