On Tasting This Friday
Kay Brothers vineyards grace the rolling foothills of the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges in South Australia. Established in 1890 by Australian born brothers, Bert and Fred Kay, the Heritage listed winery celebrated its first grape crush in 1895 and is the oldest McLaren Vale winery still in founding family hands. Today, the family continues the winemaking traditions in the heritage listed cellars. Third generation Colin Kay retired in 2014, passing the reins on to his daughter Elspeth, he still loves to taste how winemaker Duncan Kennedy is shaping his family’s iconic wines. Duncan’s approach has been to allow more of the fruit characters to shine by changing the oak ratio from American to French and favouring bigger formats to reduce the oak impact, while not losing sight of why these wines are adored the world over. Come taste a part of Australian history!
