So two weeks ago was GABS 2017 and although the location was far from ideal, the beers on hand were fantastic. Don't get me wrong Olympic Park is a great sized venue for this type of event, but the distance from the heart of craft beer territory in Sydney put a damper on the occasion. I have heard a rumour that next year may be at Darling Harbour. An extra kegtainer was set up this year for a whopping 163 specialty beer & cider. Quite a few funky beers that will make it to packaging this year, so keep an eye out in store for them. We have already got the Batch Currant State of Infusion (Blackcurrant & coffee dark sour) and the Maple Mountie will be in shortly. Also the CBIA (Craft Beer Industry Assoc) have gone through major reforms with majority of members voting to remove the big boys from the club (James Squire, Little Creatures & White Rabbit to name a few), with the intent to focus on the independent brewers. This should shake up the industry in a good way and pave the way for a crafty future. Now to look forward to Sydney Craft Beer Week 20-29th October. |
