Beechworth Vignerons-Best Tasting in Years 2017
This time of year the tasting circuit gets very busy for staff at Vine with regular new releases of both domestic and imported wines.
This might sound entertaining or a good perk but being serious about it to find the gem’s it’s like ‘to find a prince you have to kiss a lot of frogs’ my mother use to say.
Well this was not the case from the fine folk of Beechworth that absolutely had us gobsmacked with quality which meant that at another tasting in the afternoon of some iconic imported wines we were an uncustomary no show!
The only task that proved hard was picking great to greatest whilst also taking into account accessibility to more of our Vine Wine Clubbers!

Vine’s Top 5 from Beechworth

1. Vinelea Chardonnay 2015
This was a special find as the class of Chardonnay out of this region is not just highly rated in Australia in fact it’s World Class. This wine displays rich flavours of nectarine, citrus and tined peaches on an everlasting creaminess that ticks all the boxes in length and concentration.
Competing alongside big names such as Savaterre, Giaconda, Domenica and the like is no easy affair and at a fraction of the big names price tag!

2.Sorrenberg Gamay 2016
Barry & Jan Morey are the most humble couple in the Australian wine trade yet what they achieve in their winery is only a smidgen short of perfection.
This wine is all about delicate red fruits similar to the best strawberry tart you could possibly make whilst a delicate framework of subtle grippy tannin keeps it all in check.

3. The Ninth Mile Mayday Hills Pinot Noir 2015
This wine is sourced from tiny plantings in what used to be the veggie patch in a lunatic asylum but WOW is this wine Crazy!
The wine displays sour cherry with some lifted dark plums and wild spiciness on a palate of gravely fine tannin.
Let this wine breathe and the rewards will astound looking better and better and so on!

5.Traviarti Tempranillo 2015
