Subject: Friend here's my Christmas gift to you! 🎄🎁

12 days of Christmas this year comes with these 12 gifts of leadership along with some really awesome resources to go with each.

 Hey Friend,

For the 12 days of Christmas I've put together 12 gifts of leadership for you along with 12 really cool resources to go with each.

Gift #1 - Resilience

The ability to bounce back from adversity and something that is super relevant (particularly this year). Take a listen to the Unlocking Us podcast hosted by Brene Brown. Specifically listen to this one with Emily and Amelia Nagoski on burnout and how to complete the stress cycle.

Gift #2 - Drive

The need to self-motivate, manage your focus and your time.  Read the book Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey where he offers profound insights into how we can best manage our attention.

He reveals how the brain switches between two mental modes - hyperfocus, our deep concentration mode, and scatterfocus, our creative, reflective mode - and how the surest path to being our most creative and efficient selves at work is to combine them both.

Gift #3 - Curiosity

The benefits of suspending judgement to get to know someone or something at a deeper level.

Watch the TV mini series called Little Fires Everywhere which is about the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

It explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

I binge-watched this series in one weekend, it was fantastic!

Gift #4 - Humility

It's about letting go of the competitive, self-serving part of our ego and recognising then amplifying the strengths of others. It's leading through 'we' and not through 'me'.

Take a listen to the Super Soul Conversations podcast interview between Oprah Winfrey and Nelson Mandela back in 2000 - his insights really are timeless. Mandella explains what he believes it takes to be a peacemaker, and why he believes humility is one of the most important qualities to have.

Gift #5 - Compassion

Holding complete positive regard for other people despite what assumptions you may hold about them. Watch the TV series Ted Lasso which is about an American college football coach recruited to coach an English Premier League soccer team, despite having no experience in association football. He was hired by the club's owner as revenge on her wealthy, cheating ex-husband in the hopes of running the team into the ground as it was "the only thing he ever loved".

It's really light-humoured but carries a powerful message.

Gift #6 - Determination

The strength and stubbornness to keep going despite failures and setbacks along the way.

Listen to the audiobook called Extreme Ownership by ex-Navy Seals, Jocko Willink & Leif Babin who share that leadership--at every level--is the most important thing on the battlefield.

It explains the SEAL leadership concepts crucial to accomplishing the most difficult missions in combat and how to apply them to any group, team, or organisation.

Gift #7 - Transparency

The need for leaders to be open, honest and upfront about what they know and don't know.

If there was ever a leader who did this with ease and grace it's Michelle Obama. Take a listen to her audiobook called Becoming, where she invites readers into her world, sharing the experiences that have shaped her--from her childhood,  to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work and then to her time spent at the world's most famous address - the White House.

Gift #8 - Creativity

Having fun and giving yourself permission to play with possibility and experiment with new ideas.

Work your way through the experiences Mykel Dixon offers in his book, Everyday Creative. He says "when you know who you are, what you stand for, what you love and what you're good at, you are exponentially more powerful".

Gift #9 - Courage

Embracing vulnerability and leaning into discomfort for the purpose of finding a new level of leadership. Read the book Braving the Wilderness by the guru of vulnerability, Dr. Brene Brown. She writes 'The wilderness is an untamed, unpredictable place of solitude and searching. It is a place as dangerous as it is breathtaking, a place as sought after as it is feared. But it turns out to be the place of true belonging, and it's the bravest and most sacred place you will ever stand.'

Gift #10 - Conviction

A stable belief in yourself as a leader and the confidence you have in what you know, what you bring and what you're capable of.  End your roller coaster 2020 with this book, Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday. He shares that stillness is not merely inactivity, but the doorway to the self-mastery, discipline and focus necessary to succeed in this competitive, noisy world.

Gift #11 - Trust

The willingness to embrace uncertainty and empower those around you to deliver what is needed.

Listen to the audiobook, Talking to Strangers by my favourite author of all time, Malcolm Gladwell. He shares the assumptions and mistakes we make when dealing with people we don’t know.

This book was an absolute mind blower and game changer for me, so much so, I listened to it three times.

Gift #12 - Hope

Believing in a bright and promising future. It's also about the impact that little moments can have on someone's life. Watch this TED Talk, Everyday Leadership by Drew Dudley who talks about lollipop moments.  We have all changed someone's life -- usually without even realising it. He calls on all of us to celebrate leadership as the everyday act of improving each other's lives.

From my family to yours Friend...Merry Christmas!

🎄🎄🎄

Stay awesome!
