Hey Friend,
I'm sure you appreciate the value of the 'T' shaped leader, the one who has a breadth of knowledge & experience and also has depth in certain areas or skillsets.
The 'T' shaped leader understands the importance of collaboration and working with their peers, as well as, remaining curious about the finer details that might prevent or enable their team to succeed.
But, I think there is a third dimension to this concept. One that, when combined with the other two, enables dynamic thinking, dynamic leadership and dynamic teams. I would suggest that the letter is more of a lower case ‘t’ that allows vertical line to extend beyond breadth.
The third dimension is elevation and involves the ability to get above the noise and busyness of the day-to-day. It enables thinking and interacting to transition seamlessly from micro to macro and back. It is operating from an elevated level that will allow youth see the direction you’re headed and whether your focus is moving you forward or holding you back - you're above the forest looking down on it.
In today's environment, where teams are working remotely (or in a hybrid capacity) and autonomous teams are becoming more accepted (and even expected) - it isn't just breadth or depth that will enable you to succeed, it's also elevation...and more than that it's your ability to adjust your position quickly to suit the conditions.
So how easily do you move across the three dimensions? Have you found a good rhythm that allows you to grow in these areas and supports you to continue delivering?

Until then, stay awesome!
