Subject: Resilience Program - Day #5 - Persistence

You are stronger than you think!

Hey Friend

I hope you've awoken this morning to notice all the 'above the line' energy that's just waiting for you to consume! It's in the dew on the grass, in the freshness of the air and even in that hot cup of goodness you've just poured yourself. YOU are ready for the day ahead, whatever it may bring!

In session #5 we talked about persistence and how pushing through discomfort can open up a whole new world of possibility. Persisting through discomfort also helps us to build our resilience when faced with challenges and adversity.

And while we understand the importance of persisting, it can still be hard to remain in discomfort in the moment. This is why positive affirmations (or mantras) and clear stop rules are important from the very beginning.

So as you move through the day, doing all the things that come so automatically to you, I encourage you to make a conscious decision...to remind yourself of why you're doing what you're doing and focus on the end point as you put one foot in front of the other.

For those that liked the Beatles story here's a concept that might interest you. It's the 10,000 hours concept, here's a little excerpt from the American Psycholodical Review:

In most domains of expertise, individuals begin in their childhood a regimen of effortful activities (deliberate practice) designed to optimize improvement. Individual differences, even among elite performers, are closely related to assessed amounts of deliberate practice. Many characteristics once believed to reflect innate talent are actually the result of intense practice extended for a minimum of 10 years. Analysis of expert performance provides unique evidence on the potential and limits of extreme environmental adaptation and learning.

So really...anything is possible if we're willing to persist for long enough.

See you all next Thursday!

Regards,

Shelley 😁
