Breaking down barriers

Hey Friend

This weeks newsletter is to recognise International Women's Day and the barriers that still exist in our workplace...and not just between genders but more broadly.

How is it that we can come together and fully embrace the wonderfully diverse world we live in?

For me, I think it starts with swapping fear for love and judgement for curiosity. Here are three practical tools you might like to play with:

  1. Listen for the purpose of understanding, learning from and connecting with others. This means the conversation might have absolutely nothing to do with you, and that's ok, it's not about you Friend...it's about them!

  2. Ask better questions like "how are you really doing?", "can you tell me more?", "where might I be making your role harder than it needs to be?", "how can I help?, and so on. It's the law of reciprocity, if you pay greater attention to them and what's going on in their world, they'll be more likely to do the same with you.

  3. Take time to reflect and consider where you might be creating a meaning or making assumptions about someone or something that you have absolutely no data to back it up. Instead, opt for a meaning that is well-intended and comes from a kind place.

Using these three tools can help you broaden perspectives, connect better and move you forward...because that's the way we need to go as leaders...forward!

Until then, stay awesome!
