Fast Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe
Hi there,

Here’s how to make a basic natural homemade laundry detergent recipe that is easy to make and will get your clothes fresh in no time.

There are a ton of reasons to make your own homemade laundry detergent. Personally, I’m not a big fan of soaking my clothing in a bunch of chemicals that I don’t really know what they are.

Another reason I am starting to steer clear of store-bought laundry detergent is it seems to me like so much detergent needs to be used compared to homemade detergent that it seems like there must be some fillers in there.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea of paying for filler. Another reason many people might be looking to make their own homemade laundry detergent is that some laundry detergents can irritate some peoples skin.
This laundry detergent recipe is much less chemical laden and might be less irritating for those with sensitive skin. There are other reasons to not buy store bought detergents but as for me, those are the ones that have driven me to try and make my own homemade laundry detergent.

Time: 10-20 minutes

If you wish to make your own laundry soap powder, you can use any of our Goat Milk Bar Soap you want. If you do not feel like grating your own bar soap you can always purchase our Goat Milk Bath, already grated and bagged up for you. You can find that by clicking: Goat Milk Bath . Pick your favorite scent or if you want unscented use the Pure & Natural (Unscented).  It would replace the Fels-Naptha* or Zote* in most recipes.

Using Goat Milk Laundry Soap is great for sensitive skin and contains no optical brighteners.
Goat Milk Laundry Soap Bar Directions

Use a hand grater or food processor to shred and powder the laundry soap bar.

Combine with the other ingredients according to the recipe you are using.

When making your own laundry soap powder, here is our recommendations:
  1. Start with 1 part washing soda
  2. 1 part Borax
  3. 1 part grated Goat Milk Laundry Soap Bar.
It is better if you do the parts by weight (for example, 5 oz washing soda, 5 oz borax, and 5 oz grated Goat Milk Laundry Soap Bar). But if you don't have a scale, you can do volume as well (1 cup of each).

You can adjust this recipe if you have hard water by adding more washing soda (a water softener). If you need more cleansing power, increase the soap and borax.

When we need it we add some baking soda to our laundry soap powder for odor control. You can experiment with the amount of baking soda if you find that odor is an issue.

We hope this helps!
