Subject: Average hourly rate of a group teacher

One of the most influential books on my music teaching career was a thorough and amazing book called Practical Piano Pedagogy by Dr. Martha Baker-Jordan.

This was required reading for me my junior year of college.

Found all of my college notes in the back of this book

Many of the questions that are asked every day by music studio owners are answered in the pages of this massive text.

One of the concepts that she thoroughly drilled into my mind is the title of one of her chapters:

Getting Paid What You Are Worth

She has an entire chapter named after this concept.

I really took this to heart in my early 20's, and I still take it seriously today.

In fact, this is one of the chief missions of Grow Your Music Studio and all of my training programs including Successful Group Lessons!

Over the past four years, I have helped 270+ studios convert to group lessons.

A while back, I ran a poll with these clients of mine, and asked them three simple questions.

  1. What does the average teacher make per hour in your area?

  2. What do you make per hour?

  3. How many students do you see at one time?

Here is a sampling of these answers:

And, a few more...

This is just a random sampling of twelve studio owners in various parts of the country and world. A few things stand out to me:

  1. There's no "right" way to teach group... some of these teachers feel comfortable teaching 3... some of the teachers (not pictured) teach 8 or even 12 at a time!!! (with an assistant of course)

  2. Studios that teach group make at least 2x per hour what their solo teaching counterparts make. Some studios are making 3x - 5x what their colleagues make!

  3. I know these studio owners well... and the longer they have taught in group, they have been able to increase their class size with no decrease in student quality or outcomes

If you are like me, you didn't get into the teaching profession for the money.

But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be paid what you are worth!

How To Do This?

Does this pique your interest?

If so, I invite you to join us in the Successful Group Lessons training.

I have created a way of teaching groups that:

  • Doesn't require a special curriculum (I show how to adapt any method to the group format)

  • Doesn't require complicated scheduling (I schedule all ages and ability levels together)

  • Doesn't require compromising your educational standards (I have put my own students through rigorous testing systems like the Royal Conservatory of Music's system)

  • Doesn't even require you to be in person (we have many, many group teachers who are using our system to teach groups online!)

Just click the button below. It takes two minutes to sign up. The training begins the minute you register... and you get access to the entire training immediately.
