Hey Friend,
So let me finish my subject line.
Saying you want to lose weight and saying you are "ready" to lose weight are 2 completely different things.
Have you ever said those words to yourself?
I want to lose weight.
Or better yet have you ever said those words out loud to a friend, family member, etc.
Most people that "want" to lose weight will casually say something like, "I want to lose weight" or "I need to lose weight" or "I would love to lose weight".
Can you see the difference between "I want/need/love to lose weight" and "I'm ready to lose weight".
The first phrase (I want/need/love to lose weight) just says that it’s something you would like to do, you’re interested in it, it would be great if it happens, almost like a dream scenario.
Just like when people say, "I want to go to Paris", or "I would love to play the piano", etc.
Pretend for a minute that those phrases are said by 2 different people.
Which one do you think has the better chance of actually losing weight?
The first person has a ‘dream’ of losing weight. They want to (like most other people) but probably won’t see it all the way through.
The second person has made it clear in their mind that they are going to do whatever it takes, they know they are going to have to make sacrifices and they are READY.
It’s sad but true.
I used to see it all the time at my gym.
I knew which people were going to lose weight when they joined my gym. I could see it in their eyes and hear it in their voices. They asked questions, they asked for help, they were determined.
They were READY.
Then there were the others who just kind of went through the motions. They thought they knew how to do it themsleves. I would ask about their eating and they would say, “Oh my eating is fine”. Or, “I know what to do with my eating to lose weight.”
And the unfortunate part about it all is a lot of the times they didn’t know how to eat properly for weight loss.
Or they did know how but they weren’t READY to lose weight.
They said they wanted to, but they weren’t really READY to.
There’s a huge difference in that one word. It speaks volumes.
READY vs. WANT
Think of other things in life like smoking or drinking. You’re not going to stop unless you are READY to stop.
There are millions of people who smoke and WANT to stop.
But what about the person who is READY to stop?
I can speak from experience with my Dad. He smoked for about 45 years. From the age of 19 until about 64.
He tried stopping in the past with no success.
Then I remember one day he said he was ready to stop. He had had enough, didn’t like feeling so ostracized, too expensive, knew how terrible it was, my Mom hated it, etc.
He reached the point and he was READY.
Same thing happens to people who want to lose weight. They've had enough, don’t like not fitting into clothes, feel tired and lethargic, etc.
But until it bothers you enough, Friend, that you become READY to lose weight, I’m afraid you are always going to WANT it without acutally doing anything about it.
Are you READY?
Kevin
P.S. A bunch of people are going through my Sugar Detox Challenge now and it will be interesting to see who is READY to make changes with their sugar intake and who just signed up because they WANT to. Time will tell.
