Hey Friend,
So as the subject line of this email says...Healthy at 100.
Is that possible?
Forget about just living to be 100. That’s an accomplishment in and of itself, right?
But what if you not only made it to 100 but you were healthy too?
You could still go for walks, vacuum your house, garden, talk to your kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc.
How awesome would that be?
I think it would be pretty damn awesome!
I read a few books years ago just about that very subject. One was called Blue Zones and one was called Healthy at 100.
And just the other day, I listened to a podcast about lving a helthy, vibrant life well into your 90’s and even your 100’s.
During the podcast, they talked about these Blue Zones (and now there's the movie on Netflix). Areas around the world that are populated by people that I described above.
There are 4 locations I believe. One is Okinawa, Japan, one is in Costa Rica, one is an island off of Italy and one is in California somewhere.
So what is it that makes these people live so long and so healthy?
Well, there are lots of factors as you can imagine.
One is stress levels (or lack thereof)
Another one is environment (pollution, smog, etc.).
And all of these people are non-smokers (not much of a surprise there).
Here were the 2 big ones though:
BEING ACTIVE. Not being a crazy lunatic with your exercise but just being consistent and making sure you move every day or get some kind of physical activity every day.
And PROPER NUTRITION. Proper nutrition consisted of 2 things mainly;
1. Undereating–meaning these people eat a little less than most people. They didn’t stuff their faces. If they were ‘supposed to eat’ 2,000 calories a day for their body size, they eat 1,800. Just a little less.
2. Almost everything they ate was real food. Nothing from a box or a package. Fruits, animal products, vegetables, etc.
That doesn’t sound all that difficult to do, does it? Doesn’t sound like too bad of a trade off to be able to see your great grand daughter get married? Or to be at your son or daughters 50 year wedding anniversary?
Sounds funny, right?
Don’t laugh though, it can happen.
The truth is, even if you do all of those things, nothing in life is guaranteed. I know that. You know that.
But why not give yourself every opportunity to make that a possibility?
It’s under your control.
At least to some extent.
Oh, and one more thing. Those people listed above that lived into their 100’s, in addition to doing all of those things (being active, not smoking, eating real food, etc.), they also had one other thing in common.
They all had 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks per day. 🙂
Cheers to a long and healthy life!!
Kevin
