Subject: Friend, have you given up and not even realized it?

Hey Friend,

You probably remember the famous Meatloaf line, “I will do anything for love, but I won’t do that”?

It’s a classic song and I’m not really a Meatloaf fan (I like the food but not the group so much.)

Anyway, I heard that song the other day and it reminded me of all the times I have sat down and had nutrition consultations with people and more times than not the person who I was consulting with would say, “Yes, I really want to lose weight but I won’t do THAT”.

And "THAT" would be different things to different people.

Here are some examples:

Yes, I really want to lose weight but I’m not STRENGTH TRAINING.

Yes, I really want to lose weight but I’m not GIVING UP MY SWEETS.

Yes, I really want to lose weight but I’m not DOING ANY CARDIO.

Yes, I really want to lose weight but I’m not GIVING UP MY PASTA.

These are real life examples of what people have said to me in the past.

Now maybe you don’t eat or drink the foods listed above or maybe you don’t have a problem doing stregth training or cardio.

But do you have something in your life that you’ve sworn that you won’t give up in order to lose weight?

And maybe you don't think of it that way, but if you are overweight, then I'm afraid it's true.

See, the thing is, in order to succeed in your weight loss efforts, you will probably have to make some sacrifices and give up some things in your life.

Yes, It would be great to be able to drink wine, eat pasta, watch Netflix all day long and lose weight, but I’m pretty sure that is not happening for any of us any time soon.

So you might have to do some things that aren’t #1 on our list.

With that said, it’s interesting that with some of these things that we maybe start out not loving, inevitably become things that we do love.

I can’t begin to tell you how many people I’ve known who vowed that they HATED exercise and after “trying it”, fell in love with it and are now somewhat addicted to it.

Or some people who swear that they won’t give up eating pasta only to find themselves not really missing it all that much after they do give it up.

It’s funny, one of the reasons that I believe people who make these changes do wind up sticking with them is because of how they feel and look becasue of them.

There’s something about feeling and looking great that you can’t explain to people. They have to experience it firsthand.

And when they do, giving up or cutting back on something as minor as pasta or sweets is totally worth it.
