Subject: Friend, do you have "UNICORN" syndrome?

Hey Friend,

There’s this new trend happening that I'm going to refer to as 'unicorn' syndrome.

Unicorn syndrome is a cognitive bias where we believe something won't work for us because of how unique and special we are.

Lots of people have been asking me questions that go something along the lines of...

"I'm very interested in your weight loss program and incredibly frustrated because I feel like I just keep banging my head against the wall. So I truly hope that you can help me. BUT, I'm just concerned that your program won't work for me because [enter qualifying unicorn characteristic]".

Before I continue, let me just say...

I believe that everyone is unique and special and truly amazing in their own individual way. ;)

However, you're not THAT special Friend.

Here's why.

What I mean is that your situation is not so rare that a proven process that is completely tailored to your individual needs will suddenly fall flat because of how special you are.

"But does your program work for someone at my age, and my height? remember I'm 5'3 and 1/2..,,not just 5'3". :)

"What about the fact that I don't like chicken.. will it still work for me?"

"Does it work for someone who has brown hair, 4 dogs, and is right handed?!"

Well, as someone with brown hair myself, yes it will work. Yes to all of the above.

The reality is that it works because we will cover every angle.

I figured out exactly why other programs fail. Why traditional and fad diets don't work. And what actually creates success.

Then, I packed that into a high-touch, highly personalized coaching program that is more effective than anything else out there.

Yes, even for the brown haired owner of 4 dogs who is right handed.

Anyway, let's break down what is actually happening with this cognitive bias.

It's actually quite simple...

Our brain wants us to believe that we don't "fit" the criteria because then we get to hold on to our excuses.

It gives us a reason to remain firmly entrenched in our comfort zone and validates our current situation.

Understand that change is difficult. It will always be met with resistance.

The reason is that it's unpredictable and our brains hate unpredictability.

Therefore, it'll protect us by offering up excuses such as the 'unicorn' syndrome where we believe our situation is so unique and different that we couldn't possibly be successful!

What happens when your excuses are stripped away? All of a sudden you feel vulnerable. Almost naked and exposed.

Now it's all on you. That's a scary place to be.

It's also a necessary place to be but we fight to avoid it.

Even though it only lasts for a very short time. Because you'll very quickly realize how much better you feel after taking the leap.

Think about that.. we'll place a death grip on our excuses simply to avoid a brief moment of fear and uncertainty.

The brain is a fascinating machine.

On the flip side, I've had conversations with individuals who couldn't wait to jump into the program.

Like literally, once I qualified them and determined they were a good fit, they were like please sign me up immediately.

What gives? Do they not suffer from unicorn syndrome?

They do. We all do. But they reached a point of knowing that staying put was not an option.

Once you realize that holding onto your excuses and your comfort zone are a sure-fire way to remain stuck, well.....those excuses and that comfort don't seem too appealing anymore.

I know that feeling because that was me. I reached that point of no return.

And all of a sudden..my time excuse, my money excuse, my "I'm an introvert excuse"... all went out the window.

The bottom line is this...

You are, in fact, a unicorn. There is literally no one else like you in the entire world.

And that's pretty cool when you stop and think about it.

However, you are still human. And there are still predictable patterns and processes that when applied to the individual... straight up work.

Just remember...if you fight for your limitations....you get to keep them.

Kevin

P.S. "I was very skeptical when I started Kevin's program - I have tried every thing out there; counting calories, macros, shakes, and honestly my first thought to myself was “great another diet to try that’s not going to work.” Boy was I wrong! I lost 24.4 pounds In 8 weeks and I couldn’t be happier! My clothes fit better, I sleep great, my mood has changed so much and I feel energized. This is NOT a diet and I think that’s what I loved most about it. It’s a way of life that’s easy to maintain. Kevin was great! He was very responsive, always willing to share new knowledge and most importantly very positive and so supportive. Thank you so much Kevin, I am now continuing my journey And hoping to be down to my goal weight very soon!"
