Hey Friend,
Happy Friday!
The weekend is upon us!
I've got a great story I want to share with you that might help you out with losing weight.
A few years ago I had a nutrition consultation with a woman about her eating and her nutrition plan.
She wanted to lose weight. Just about 10 pounds.
She had been carrying around this extra 10 pounds for a long time and wasn’t able to get rid of it no matter what she did, she said.
She was in good shape, but these "last" 10 pounds didn’t seem to budge.
Can you relate?
So we sat down and talked for a long time. I dissected her diet front and back, side to side, etc.
She was a very healthy eater for the most part and I was having a hard time coming up with an action plan that she could put into effect to help her with losing these last few pounds.
I knew her exercise was on point as she was a member of my gym at the time and was a very consistent exerciser.
As we were coming to the end of her consult, I almost forgot to ask her what she drank. The normal questions like are you a coffee drinker, if so do you use sugar, etc.
She was not a coffee drinker, BUT she did tell me that she drank soda.
“Diet soda?”, I asked.
“No, regular soda. I’m afraid to drink diet soda because of the artificial sweetners,” she said.
“And how many do you drink per day?”, I asked.
“Usually about 3 to 4”.
WHAT?????
I was shocked.
I told her I wish I would have aksed her that question first. It would have been a 5 minute consultation!
I then asked her if she thought she could go without the soda or would she be more comfortable slowly weaning herself off of it.
She said she enjoyed the bubbles/carbonation but didn’t think she would have any issues just not drinking it anymore.
I suggested she could maybe drink some flavored seltzer waters so this way she would still get the carbonation but not the massive amounts of sugar.
Fast forward three weeks after our consultation.
She was down 7 pounds and was feeling great.
I wasn’t surprised one bit.
Sometimes (oftentimes!) we make things too complicated.
Sometimes we try and do too many things at once.
Sometimes we just need to change one thing.
Jut one minor change can make a HUGE difference.
A 7 pound difference to be exact.
What’s one thing you can change that will make a difference.
There might be a few things, but just pick one to start with.
Kevin
