Supplemental Info:

SECURITY ALERT

U.S. EMBASSY BEIRUT, LEBANON

OCTOBER 3, 2024

Event: The security situation in Lebanon continues to be volatile and unpredictable. Airstrikes continue throughout much of the country, especially the south, the Beqaa, and parts of Beirut. If already in the country, the Department of State urges U.S. citizens to depart Lebanon now while commercial options and U.S. augmentation flights remain available. We urge U.S. citizens not to travel to Lebanon. We recommend that U.S. citizens who choose not to depart prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place should the situation deteriorate further. The U.S. Embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens in Southern Lebanon, near the borders with Syria, in refugee settlements, and in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut to depart those areas immediately.

Actions to Take:

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut may assist you in a multitude of ways. We can:

  • process emergency U.S. passport requests.

  • direct you to flights with available seats to depart Lebanon to a safe third country.

  • Provide eligible U.S. citizens emergency loans to relocate to a safe location.

  • If you are a U.S. citizen in Lebanon and want to receive information about departure or loan assistance, please fill out this form . If you have already filled out the form, please do not fill it out more than once for the same individuals, as this will slow down our ability to respond to you.

We are able to assist U.S. citizens and their immediate family traveling with them to depart the country. Immediate family members include: spouses, children under 21-years old, and parents with a means to enter the United States or Schengen Area. We can also assist lawful permanent residents (LPRs) with valid green cards to depart Lebanon.

If you are traveling with family members who we are not able to assist at this time, commercial flights are available to the public. Please check flight options at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport . We will assist U.S. citizens in seeking access to those flights. You may also wish to consider a short-term emergency loan, as described above.

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut is not providing routine visa services while we continue to prioritize services for U.S. citizens.   For updates on U.S. visa processing in Lebanon, please visit https://lb.usembassy.gov/visas/ or  https://www.ustraveldocs.com/lb/ .  If you have departed Lebanon or plan to do so, please visit the U.S. Embassy website for that country for information on visa processing in that location. Travel within Lebanon is conducted at your own risk. The U.S. government cannot guarantee your safety traveling to airports, borders, or during any onward travel. You should consider your personal security situation before traveling anywhere in Lebanon. Only attempt to depart Lebanon or travel within Lebanon if you believe it is safe for you to do so. The Embassy urges all U.S. citizens in Lebanon to monitor the media for the latest developments and heed the advice of local authorities and first responders.
