Location: Cuba


Event: On October 18, 2024, Cuba’s entire electrical grid shut down after the failure of one of the country’s major power plants. As of 4:00 p.m. local time, there is no update on when power will be restored to the island. It is expected that emergency services will continue, but all U.S. citizens in Cuba or planning to travel to Cuba should be aware and plan accordingly. There are reports of cellphone and internet outages.

  • Monitor local media for updates.

  • Conserve water and food.

  • Keep mobile phones charged.

  • Review your personal security plans.

  • Check in with friends and family on a regular basis.
