Event: The Embassy is aware that in response to the extradition of Dario Antonio Usuga, aka Otoniel on May 4, 2022, the Clan de Golfo (CDG) – a multinational drug cartel based in Colombia – has begun to carry out acts of reprisal. They have called for a Paro Armado (armed strike) in the Departments of Antioquia, Chocho, and Cordoba starting today, May 5, through May 10. It is anticipated that the Departments of Bolivar, Atlántico, Sucre and Magdalena may also be impacted. Additionally there have been reports of vehicles being burned along major routes – attributed to CDG – in Antioquia, Sucre, Atlántico, and Bolivar. Colombian Security Forces are on high alert.
The U.S. Department of State advises citizens to reconsider travel to Colombia due to crime and terrorism, and to exercise increased caution in Colombia due to civil unrest and kidnapping. The full Travel Advisory for Colombia
