US Embassy Belgium warns large "Yellow Vest" protests expected in Brussels tomorrow, 8 Dec.. Caution and low profile urged for American citizens. See email.

Tens of thousands of American citizens visit Belgium each month for business and tourism. These numbers significantly increase during end-of-year holidays.

Location: The announced gathering point and route includes, but is not limited to Place Poelaert/Justice Palace, Schuman Square, Place Sainte-Catherine and Porte de Namur.

Event: Large demonstrations are expected to take place on December 8, 2018 beginning at 10:00 am. The “yellow vests” will protest high fuel taxes. Additional related demonstrations in Brussels and other major cities in Belgium may also occur.

Action to take:

Avoid the areas of the demonstrations
Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests
Monitor local media for updates
Be aware of your surroundings
