The full assessment will be made public tomorrow (7/18) by the UK Home Office concurrent to the release of the governments new Counter-Terrorism Strategy (CONTEST).


Key Points:


  • The UK is still under the threat of terror attacks, with ISIS and Al Qaeda seeking to plan and enable extremist attacks.


  • Fragmentation of extremist activity has made it more difficult to track and investigate, with inspiration and recruitment taking place online.


  • Counter-terrorism police made 169 arrests last year.


  • 39 terror plots in late stages of planning were prevented by intelligence agencies and law enforcement in 2022, most of which were Islamist in origin.


  • 2 plots were foiled in the past seven months.
